I have to admit that I love doing extended family sessions in Ottawa. They are certainly not for everyone and they tend to be a bit chaotic but that’s what I love about them. I have 8 siblings so big groups are my comfort zone. My own kiddos already have 10 cousins and we get together every week. I love the bond they have already; they are more like siblings then cousins. Which is why I loved photographing this amazing family. Rebecca reached out to me as her sister didn’t live in Ottawa and was flying in for a couple days. She wanted to take advantage of the rare times all the family is together and get some family photos done of the cousins.
During my extended family sessions I usually start with a big group, then do individual family photos starting with the youngest members first. I make sure I get family photos, sibling photos and individuals of each kiddo and of course a group cousin photo as well.
It was my first outdoor session after a very long winter and it was so refreshing to get to shoot outside again. Although these cousins don’t see each other often, you could never tell. They played together the whole session and the big cousins loved looking after the little ones. That really is the beauty of young children though. They often have little inhibition and just love playing with anyone.
I hope you love these photos as much as I do.
